He got the idea to charge one dollar for one pixel on the page and have 1 million pixels on the page. A pixel is the smallest unit of spot on a computer screen. Each advertiser needs a rectangular space composed of many pixels and they get to put their logo on the space they buy, and the logo links to their website. He sold some pixels to his friends and family, and his story got picked up by a newspaper, and other follows. People wanted to advertise on his page and he sold $1 million worth of pixels.
